Menurut Syaffi Tarigan, Sekretaris DPD Penyelemat Nusantara, sebuah lembaga swadaya masyarakat, yang berada di Kabanjahe, semburan api dari Sinabung ini membakar 3740 hektare hutan dan lahan pertanian.

"Pasar, rumah, jalanan semua tertutup debu putih," ujar Syafii saat dihubungi dari Jakarta. Minggu (29/8). "Gumpalan asap, abu dan lava juga masih terlihat," katanya.
